Pressrelease CoreExpress™-ECO – a tiny lightweight with Intel® Atom™ ProcessorLiPPERT presents a CoreExpress™ based Intel© Atom™ processor platform. The new embedded PC module CoreExpress™-ECO works with Intel's Atom™ processor. Unlike the established standards, this small new format allows the easy design of robust mobile devices.

LiPPERT Embedded Computers introduces the CoreExpress™-ECO module. Its size of 58 mm x 65 mm makes it the smallest embedded PC module available. The tiny overall size comes from the uncompromising, legacy-free design that does without the usual analog interfaces. The used Intel© Atom™ processor is build in power-saving 45 nanometer technology and features a completely new microcode yet retains compatibility to the familiar programming model of the Core 2 Duo. The module's focus towards low current consumption is apparent when considering the extremely low power requirement of typically 5 watts at 1.6 GHz. CoreExpress™-ECO comes with clock rates of 1.1 GHz or 1.6 GHz. Both variants feature 512 k L2 cache and support up to 1 GB soldered DDR2 RAM. The system controller hub (SCH) sports a built-in graphics processor that handles LVDS (1376 x 768 px) and SDVO (1280 x 1024 px) ports; H.264- und MPEG2/4-decoding as well as HV-1 and WMV9 codecs are included, too Four audio streams are managed by the high definition audio controller. The available interfaces comprise 2 PCI Express-x1-lanes, 8 USB 2.0 ports, parallel ATA, SDIO/MMC, SMBus, GMBus/DDC, and LPC-Bus. The module is specified for a temperature range of -20°C ... +60°C; optionally, there also are models for the extended temperature range of -40°C ... +85°C available. A minimum long term availability of 7 years is assured. CoreExpress™-Module are processor-independent, pluggable CPU modules, which come complete with memory, graphics and communication interfaces. A 220 pin connector establishes the connection to the application specific carrier board. Because the CoreExpress™ module already integrates the complex processor electronics, the carrier board can be much simpler and cost effective. This leads to short development times and an attractive pricing for the overall problem solution. A build-in microcontroller supervises the system and provides comfortable condition monitoring through the use of LiPPERT Enhanced Management Technology (LEMT). A starter kit is available to ease the system designer's task. It contains a CoreExpress™-ECO module mounted on an EPIC board. A best practices manual is included, as well as all necessary cables and technical documentation. Windows, QNX and Linux operating systems will be supported.
