Intel® Core™ i7 processor
EPIC-Express SBC!
Compact, reliable and rugged embedded SBC
in cutting edge technology. |
The Small Form Factors Special Interest Group has adopted the
CoreExpress specification. Under the terms of an agreement between
SFF-SIG and LiPPERT, the entire embedded community will now be able to
develop CoreExpress modules and applications without regard to
confidentiality and without royalties of any kind. This makes advanced
CoreExpress technology available to the entire embedded community. See www.coreexpress.com
for more information. |

LiPPERT presents the first EPIC-formatted board with the Intel®
Core™ i7 Processor.
The EPIC Express board has processor and chipset both mounted on the
PCB’s bottom side, an arrangement that has advantages when it comes to
cooling the board. It allows mounting a cooling solution on the bottom
side of the board, where it does not obstruct access to the connectors
and the extension slot located on the top side. The compact assembly
results in great mechanical stability, making the Hurrricane-QM57
especially suited for rough environments, where shock and vibration
resistance is a must.
These applications also profit from the board’s ability to operate in
the extended temperature range (optional). Two DisplayPort connectors
attach to LCD screens.
The Hurricane-QM57 can be equipped with a maximum of 4 GB soldered
DDR3-ECC RAM. If required, this can be expanded to 8 GB, using a
specially designed ruggedized SODIMM (“RSOMM”) module.
Due to Intel’s advanced semiconductor processes and transistor
technologies, the processor and chipset use surprisingly little power,
yet provide excellent processing capabilities.
The board’s interfaces comprise multiple PCIe, Ethernet, USB, and SATA
ports. DisplayPort, LVDS, and SPDIF audio connectors give multimedia
potential to this single board computer. |

In order to utilize the full performance and extension capabilities of
the QM57, LiPPERT developed two extension boards with the most often
used communication interfaces.
EXP-ETH8 is an octuple Ethernet extension board for EPIC Express CPUs,
which can also be used as a carrier board for PCI/104 Express processor
boards. Up to two boards are stackable on our new Hurricane-QM57 SBC.
Main applications are in the field of security, where each Ethernet
channel requires its own independent MAC and MAC-ID and where the higher
bandwidth is needed.
Drivers are avialble for Windows XP, Windows XP Embedded, QNX, and Linux
operation systems.
EXP-ISO-COM8 is an EPIC add-on module, comprising eight independent and
flexibly configurable serial ports for RS232 / RS422 / RS485 line
levels.
All interfaces are galvanically isolated, thus insuring the integrity of
add-on board and processor module. The individual operating modes and
the optional terminations are selectable using jumpers. DB9 connectors
and four IDC10 headers for cable stubs to DB9 available.
EXP-ISO-COM8 is powered with a single 5 V supply from the PCIe /104
Express connector. It runs under Windows XP, Windows XP Embedded, and
Linux operation systems. |

The Cool
LiteRunner-ECO is a PC/104 carrier board for CoreExpress® Advanced COM
modules.
It sports the usual interfaces of an embedded PC. Among these are VGA
and LVDS, HD audio, two Gigabit LAN, USB 2.0 and SATA II ports, and two
RS232/RS423/RS485 serial interfaces. Additionally, there are PS/2 and
parallel ports, and a supervisory connector for system signals
available. A micro SD slot supports bootable media.
The Cool LiteRunner-ECO is optionally available for extended temperature
range -40…+85°C. Depending on the CoreExpress® module actually used,
this embedded PC features different functions.

Based on a Vortex86DX processor unit, this PC/104
single board computer features several outstanding functions, making it
highly interesting for control and mobile applications.
In addition to ubiquitous interfaces like LAN, USB, and serial ports, it
also comes with an integrated FPGA. This can be used to implement fast
hardware-based I/O processing, serial protocols, and much more. For
mobile applications, there is a GPS receiver unit, suitable for indoor
tracking, on board.
Industrial controls take advantage of the Cool LiteRunner-86DX’s
inherent redundancy feature. Two CPU boards can be stacked and act as
replacements for each other, allowing very secure processing.
The Cool LiteRunner-86DX comes with 512 MB soldered DDR2 RAM, 8 MB
bootable Flash memory and a micro SD slot that can also be used to boot
from. Optionally, it can be ordered with extended temperature range
qualification. |

The 104X-E4690 is a high performance
PCI/104-Express graphics board, based on AMD´s ATI E4690 embedded
graphics controller.
The board uses PCI-Express x16 signals on the PCI/104-Express slot and
can be used with PCI/104-Express processor boards. It also supports
stacking through of the PC/104-Plus (PCI) bus with an integrated PC/104
Plus connector.
The 104X-E4690 comes with 2 DisplayPort, VGA, and LVDS connectors. |
